enhancing our community

Summary/NEWS

    Latest Project Bawdeswell News -

The meeting on 14th June was given a summary of the feedback from the presentation in March about options for the position and design of the village hall which has now been analysed.  The preferred site is option 2 between the bowling green and the basketball court.  Villagers opted for a traditional and unobtrusive building style which looks like it belongs in its setting, with a highly environmentally friendly content.  See our display board at the village fete for more information.  The next step is to develop external plans and an internal layout that will be presented to the village in the autumn.

An enormous amount of effort has been made to obtain funding for the erection of the children’s play equipment.  This has been very frustrating.  The realisation has been made that unfortunately, for insurance and health and safety reasons, we cannot do any of this work ourselves.  The equipment will have to be refurbished and installed by the original manufacturers in order to satisfy these requirements.  The cost of doing this and providing the correct safety surface and some other equipment suitable for an older age group is in excess of £20,000!!  Funding sources have been considered and an application was made to the most likely one at the beginning of May.  Unfortunately the time scales are long.  An answer to the first stage of the application will not be forthcoming until the end of July.  Based on the response there is a 2nd stage to go through and this will take even longer!  So sadly this equipment will not be in place for the school holidays.  Please remind children not to climb on it because it is unsafe at the moment.

The good news is that the cricket nets will be installed in the next couple of weeks.  Luckily volunteers from the village can do this work themselves and Project Bawdeswell is very grateful to the Activities Group team undertaking this job. (Nets are up. Click here to see details)

We need to increase the momentum of the project but, unfortunately, we are relying on a very small number of villagers who are already heavily involved in the Community.

If you want better facilities, now is the time for your support.

Some work is being done between meetings and behind the scenes by the sub groups but we need more people.

Join us on the 12th July at 10.00 am in the Village Hall. Come along and hear all about the various work streams and share your ideas with us.
